Why The Healing Oasis?

I grew up on a ranch in Alberta and then went into tech for 20 yrs where I had some success.  So why at 41 yrs old am I now starting The Healing Oasis when I’m not a doctor and don’t claim to know how to solve one of the world’s biggest problems, cancer.  So why now?  Why me?

Sometimes life has a way to throw you off course very unexpectedly. I’m reminded of a verse in Proverbs, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” (Proverbs 16:9).  In other words, when you think you have life figured out sometimes it can change so drastically that it sets you on a completely new path.

The summer of 2021 I was flying high.  The startup company I had risked everything for to build got accepted into Y Combinator and we broke every record in Alberta history for a seed round.  We had VC’s fighting to invest in our company.  Just one year prior to this I was struggling so bad that at times I wasn’t sure how I was going to pay the bills.  My Dad was my biggest fan, always believing in me and encouraging me.  I talked to my Dad almost every day.

Then my Dad got Covid in September 2021 right as we raised the money for our company.  So while I was at the pinnacle of my business career one of my best friends, my Dad, was pretty sick.  I was living in BC and he was in Calgary and his condition worsened fairly quickly.  Eventually he was intubated and ended up dying and I didn’t even get to see him.

If there was ever an event that would change the course of my life… this was it.  The desire of my heart changed.  All I wanted to do was help people.  More specifically, I had a vision to buy a place that I could use to help bring healing and rest to those who were suffering.

I’m the last guy on earth that should run a place like the Healing Oasis.  I’m not that handy, I don’t have a medical background, I haven’t had cancer…

But, I do have a burning desire deep within my heart to help heal people.  “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” – Ps. 37:4

I have no other motive than to help people who are suffering find healing and rest.  I’ve dedicated this place to God, the great Physician, and believe that He can bring the right people to help bring healing and use this land for His good.

People with cancer are suffering all over the world and I believe The Healing Oasis can make a difference.  Sure, I may be naive (when I was building CostCertified investors said that I had 0% chance), but when I have a vision in my heart I go for it.  I’m not sure how all the pieces will fall in place but I’m moving forward in faith.

If you are looking at The Healing Oasis I can’t promise you that you’ll be healed or leave this place without cancer.  But I can promise you that we will do everything we can in our power to help you fight this terrible disease and win.  I’m devoting all my resources into this place just to try to make a difference.  Somehow, by the grace of God, we will help those who need it most.
