Home / Food
Ask guests what they remember about The Healing Oasis and the meals come up nearly every time. Organic, anti-inflammatory, easy to digest, and made from scratch two times a day by one of the best chefs in the Okanagan.
The difference
People arrive braced for the food to be the price they pay for getting well. Steamed things. Sad salads. Then Shane LaRoche cooks for them and it turns out to be one of their favourite parts of the whole three weeks.
Born and bred in the Okanagan, Shane was drawn to food young. His great-grandmother was a cook in the army and ran her own restaurant for years, which is where the building blocks came from. Almost every guest tells us it is some of the best food they have eaten in their lives.
If you cannot keep food down, he will find something you can. If you are avoiding something, he works around it without making it a thing.
The rhythm of the day
Shane cooks two meals a day rather than three, because we encourage intermittent fasting and the overnight window is doing real work. Organic breakfast items are always there for anyone who would rather eat in the morning, and nobody is policed about it.
Nobody has ever left here hungry.
Four principles
They work together to calm inflammation, support digestion, and help your body do what it was made to do.

Our chef is one of the best in the Okanagan and we do our best to source local, fresh ingredients. We make sure nothing is sprayed and that it is the best quality we can find.
We prioritise preparation methods that preserve nutrients and support digestion, avoiding unnecessary additives, refined sugars and processed ingredients.
We help guests understand why certain foods support healing, so they feel confident continuing these habits at home.

Meals are created using ingredients known to support the body's natural inflammatory response, helping create an environment for healing and recovery.
Our chef uses a great deal of anti-inflammatory ingredients, and knows how to make them taste like something you actually want to eat.
Each meal is thoughtfully planned to ensure maximum benefit while also making sure it tastes amazing.

Meals are designed to be light, nourishing and easy to digest, supporting guests whose bodies may be sensitive during or after treatment.
Preparation methods support digestion, helping the body absorb nutrients without added strain.
Food is balanced to provide essential nutrients while remaining soothing, promoting strength and recovery.

Meals are adapted based on each guest's dietary needs, with guidance from our team.
We accommodate a wide range of dietary approaches while keeping the focus on whole, nourishing ingredients.
The goal is to support healing without adding stress, so you feel cared for and listened to rather than difficult.
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
HippocratesWe take that literally. Food is not the supporting act here, it is one of the five pillars, and it is doing as much work as anything else on the property.
“Shane, thank you for constantly working with me to find food that I could eat. You are an amazing chef.”
Keith Colyer · Ohio, USA“The healing food was amazing, even though I could not totally partake in it all. Shane was so kind to accommodate me with meals made for me.”
Karen Davis · Courtenay, BC“Chef Shane, I will be missing all your food and dreaming to try preparing at least some of your recipes.”
Annabelle · Cohort 5, 2025“Oh my gosh, you are creative and your culinary delights are beyond delicious.”
Joanne · Cohort 4, 2025Fresh juice is served at meal times, pressed here rather than poured from a carton.
You take it home
Eating well for three weeks is pleasant. Knowing how to keep doing it once you are back in your own kitchen is the thing that actually changes the outcome. So every guest goes home with a copy of The Healing Oasis Cookbook, written by Shane himself, as a gift.
It is the food you just spent three weeks eating. The meals you asked him about at the table. Real quantities, real methods, written so you can follow them on a low energy evening rather than only on a good day.
Guests tell us it is worth its weight in gold, and we think that is about right. The three weeks end. The way you eat does not have to.
There is an online cooking class with Shane too, so you can watch him make them rather than guess.
